One reason the power might go out is because something called a "circuit breaker" has tripped. But don't worry, resetting a breaker panel is easy!
First, you need to find the breaker panel in your house. It might be in the basement, garage, or utility room. It looks like a big gray box with a lot of little switches inside.
It looks like this:
Next, if you look closely at the switches, you'll see that some of them are in the "on" position and some are in the "off" position. If the switch for the area that lost power is in the "off" position, that means it has tripped and you need to reset it.
This is how you can tell:
Tripped breaker
To reset the breaker, you need to switch it from "off" to "on." You can do this by pushing the switch all the way to the "off" position, and then pushing it all the way to the "on" position. It might take a little bit of force, but don't worry, it won't break.
Once you've reset the breaker, you can check to see if the power is back on in the area that lost it. If it's still out, you might need to reset some other breakers as well. Just keep trying until you find the one that needs to be reset.
And that's it! You've successfully reset a breaker panel. If you're still having trouble, don't hesitate to ask an adult for help.
